Menz to talk about and sign his “Ramblings from the Upper Deck”

The Jefferson Public Library will host Lynn Menz of Jefferson for an author talk and book signing Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 to 11:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Menz published memoirs, “Ramblings from the Upper Deck: The Life and Times of an Iowa Boy” in 2013.

His interests include travel, raising bonsai trees, horticulture, trees and astronomy. Those interests were evident when he and Ellie were part of the Jefferson Garden Club’s Tour of Gardens last summer.

“Ramblings from the Upper Deck” tells the story of Menz’s growing up on a farm near Fenton, leaving home and making his way in the world. The book is full of Menz’s reflections on how Iowa life and farming have changed, his career path and search for a calling, his goals and dreams, and stories of his successes and struggles. The title of the book was inspired by the time he has spent on the upper deck of his home overlooking his wooded backyard, pondering his place in the world.
